Reading & Poetry Open Mic
Saturday, February 11
Doors open to poets at 4PM
Reading begins at 4:15PM
Laughlin Gallery
1900 Sheridan Road

Join Highland Park Poetry for our monthly reading at Laughlin Gallery, our new venue located at 1900 Sheridan Road. Free on-street parking available and in nearby public lots. No cover charge but donation for venue appreciated. Restroom available but no café service. Doors open to poetry at 4PM so as not to disturb other classes or programs occuring earlier. Purchase your favorite beverage before the show at Perfect Blend or Love That Spice/Tea. These businesses close at 4PM so be sure to arrive early to get your order in.

We're pleased to welcome Lennart Lundh and Julie Isaacson as our featured poets this month. Open-mic immediately follows. Poets may bring up to three poems to read (each poem should not exceed one page - if your poems are longer, read fewer).

Lennart Lundh is a poet, photographer, historian, and short-fictionist. His work has appeared internationally since 1965.

Julie Isaacson resides in Highland Park, where she is an educator in private practice to promote literacy and writing for students of all ages. She is a writer of short stories and poetry. She is a contributing writer in I Am My Father’s Daughter compilation of tributes. Julie’s poems have received awards from Highland Park Poetry and Illinois State Poetry Society. She is the author of an anthology entitled The Angry Chef: Satisfying Recipes Inspired by Unsatisfying Relationships. Julie serves on the board of East on Central, Journal of Arts and Letters, where she is a regular contributor. In addition to these passions, Julie also enjoys performing in storytelling venues in the area, including Short Story Theatre and This Much is True. She was included as a teller at the Minnesota Fringe Festival in 2021. Julie is currently writing a memoir based upon family life near the Mississippi River. Other favored activities include creating in the kitchen, long walks with her rescue dog, and playing piano. A travel highlight is California, to visit her adult children and for ocean gazing.

***Mary Beth Bretzlauf was incorrectly listed as one of our featured poets in February - she is scheduled for our event on March 11, 2023. Apologies for any confusion. ***
