Join Highland Park Poetry for our monthly reading at Laughlin Gallery, our new venue located at 1894 Sheridan Road. Free on-street parking available and in nearby public lots. No cover charge but donation for venue appreciated. Restroom available but no café service. Doors open to poetry at 4PM so as not to disturb other classes or programs occuring earlier. Purchase your favorite beverage before the show at Perfect Blend or Love That Spice/Tea. These businesses close at 4PM so be sure to arrive early to get your order in.

We're pleased to welcome Dina Elenbogen and Gari Light as our featured poets this month. Open-mic immediately follows. Poets may bring up to three poems to read (each poem should not exceed one page - if your poems are longer, read fewer).

Dina Elenbogen  is author of the poetry collection, Apples of the Earth (Spuyten Duyvil, NY)  the memoir, Drawn from Water: an American poet, an Ethiopian Family, an Israeli Story (BkMkPress, University of Missouri) and the new poetry collection, Shore (Glass Lyre Press,  March, 2023.) She has received fellowships from the Illinois Arts Council and the Ragdale Foundation. Her work has appeared in numerous magazines and anthologies including: Fury: Women’s Lived Experience During the Trump Era (Pact Press), City of the Big Shoulders (University of Iowa Press) Beyond Lament (Northwestern University Press), Lit Hub, Bellevue Literary Review, Prairie Schooner, Poet Lore, december, Woven Tale Press, The Examined Life Journal, Patterson Literary Review, Connecticut River Review, Rhino, New City Chicago and many other venues. She has an MFA in poetry from the Iowa Writers’ Workshop and teaches creative writing at the University of Chicago Writer’s Studio.

Gari Light, is a Chicago-based poet, born in Kyiv, Ukraine in 1967 and has lived in the United States since 1980. Gari graduated from Northwestern University with a Departmental Honors B.A. in Slavic Literatures Studies. He became a lawyer some short time after, and worked in the area of international jurisprudence, both in the U.S, and abroad. Since 1993, Gari's poetry is published regularly in the literary journals and poetry anthologies of the United States, Canada, Israel, Europe and Ukraine. He is a member of the American PEN Center and the Writer's Union of Ukraine. Light’s several books of poetry were published in Russian, starting in 1992 in Ukraine and the U.S.  Gari’s collection in English, entitled Confluences (Bagriy, 2020; Kayala, 2020). His most recent trilingual (English, Ukrainian and Russian) poetry book entitled  Doloroso, was published both in Kyiv, Ukraine (OFP, 2022) and Chicago-Boston (Bagriy, 2023).
